IBC-konttien määräaikaistarkastus

Periodic Inspections of Metal and Plastic IBC Containers

Periodic testing (up to every 2.5 years) checks the appropriateness of the marking of IBC containers, the internal and external condition of the containers and the proper functioning of the container equipment. A dated report of the test shall be drawn up and kept by the owner of the container until the next inspection. The periodic inspection also includes the maintenance and repair of the equipment and, if necessary, its replacement.

UN-approved Intermediate Bulk Containers (IBCs) are used for the international transport and storage of hazardous and noxious substances. The use of metal IBCs is also common in the food and pharmaceutical industries. Metal IBCs are used by a number of European industrial and transport companies as well as environmental operators.

The number of IBCs, especially for the transport of hazardous waste, increased as international transport regulations also began to require type approval for hazardous waste bins.

The manufacture, use and testing of IBCs is based on international regulations. (Decree of the Ministry of Transport and Communications on the transport of dangerous goods by road (369/2011). Paketo Recycling Oy has also received a permit in accordance with this decree for periodic testing of metal IBCs.

The construction, equipment, testing, marking and use of IBCs must be approved by the VAK inspection body. A compliant IBC is marked with a UN type-approval mark. The marking indicates that the IBC conforms to the type of construction which has passed the tests and meets the requirements set out in the certificate of approval.

Periodic testing (every 2.5 years or less) checks the appropriateness of the markings on the containers, the internal and external condition of the containers and the proper functioning of the container equipment. A dated report of the test shall be drawn up and kept by the owner of the container until the next inspection. The periodic inspection also includes the maintenance and repair of the equipment and, if necessary, the replacement of parts.

All IBCs intended for liquids or solids to be filled or emptied by pressure shall also be subjected to a leakproofness test before their first use for carriage and at least every 2.5 years thereafter.
